Plan Your Journey

Trip Overview

Chongqing is a city built into the mountains — a place where fog rolls between skyscrapers, ancient stilt houses cling to river cliffs, and the aroma of Sichuan peppercorn drifts from every alley. Over seven days and six nights, this B-line itinerary takes you deep into the soul of the Mountain City.

"In Chongqing, every staircase leads to a story, and every meal is a celebration of fire and flavor."

You will explore the illuminated wonder of Hongya Cave, marvel at the 800-year-old Dazu Rock Carvings, cruise the mighty Yangtze at sunset, wander the porcelain lanes of Ciqikou, and share a bubbling hotpot with locals who treat strangers like family.

Arrival in the Mountain City

Welcome to the City of Fog

Your private guide and driver greet you at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport or the railway station. Transfer to your centrally located hotel to settle in. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Jialing River promenade, soaking in the city’s dramatic skyline and vertical energy.

Welcome dinner featuring Chongqing’s signature spicy hotpot — a social ritual as much as a meal, where fresh ingredients dance in a bubbling, fragrant broth.

Old City Charms & Night Lights

Stilt Houses & Starlit Alleys

Begin at Jiefangbei, the vibrant commercial heart of Chongqing, before descending into the labyrinth of Hongya Cave — an 11-story cliffside complex of stilted wooden houses, teahouses, and lantern-lit alleys that seems to defy gravity.

After a traditional Sichuan lunch, visit the Three Gorges Museum to understand the human and geological history of the Yangtze. As dusk falls, board the Yangtze River cable car for panoramic views, then return to Hongya Cave after dark when the entire cliff face glows like a fairy-tale palace.

Dazu Rock Carvings — A UNESCO Treasure

Sacred Stone & Living Faith

Travel by private vehicle to the Dazu Rock Carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage site spanning over 50,000 statues and 100,000 Chinese characters carved into limestone cliffs between the 7th and 13th centuries.

Your guide brings the Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian tableaux to life, explaining the spiritual symbolism and the extraordinary craftsmanship that has survived earthquakes, wars, and centuries of weather. Return to Chongqing in the late afternoon with time to relax or explore a local neighborhood market.

Yangtze River Cruise Experience

Golden Waters & Gorge Legends

Board a comfortable river cruise vessel for a scenic journey along the Yangtze. Glide past the dramatic limestone cliffs and mist-shrouded peaks that have inspired Chinese poets for millennia.

On deck, your guide recounts the legends of the Three Gorges — the stories of ancient trackers who once hauled ships upstream by rope, and the villages now submerged beneath the reservoir. Enjoy a buffet lunch on board as the landscape unfolds around you. Return to Chongqing by evening.

Ciqikou Ancient Town & Local Life

Porcelain Lanes & Teahouse Tales

Step back in time in Ciqikou, the “Porcelain Village” that has produced ceramics for over 1,000 years. Wander cobblestone lanes lined with Ming- and Qing-dynasty architecture, artisan workshops, and the irresistible scent of freshly fried youtiao and Sichuan pepper snacks.

Pause at a riverside teahouse to watch locals play mahjong and sip green tea. In the afternoon, visit a working pottery studio where you can try your hand at shaping clay on a traditional wheel. Evening at leisure to explore Chongqing’s famous night markets.

Mountain City Wonders & Modern Marvels

Trains Through Buildings & Sky Bridges

Experience Chongqing’s reputation as a “cyberpunk” city firsthand. Ride the famous Liziba Monorail — a train that passes directly through a residential tower block — and walk the vertigo-inducing sky bridges that connect hillsides at dizzying heights.

Visit the Eling Park overlook for a sweeping panorama of the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers, then descend into the 18 Steps historic district, a restored war-era neighborhood of stone staircases, hidden gardens, and traditional courtyard homes. Farewell dinner with river views.
