Explore the Itinerary Download PDF Itinerary

Tour Overview

Step into a landscape where Taoist temples cling to mist-shrouded cliffs and the echoes of ancient dynasties still resonate through marble-paved streets. This four-day immersion weaves together the raw natural beauty of the Qinling Mountains with the profound cultural heritage of Chang'an — the ancient name for Xi'an, capital of thirteen Chinese dynasties.

Each day unfolds as a carefully composed chapter: mountain hikes through old-growth forests, encounters with centuries-old religious architecture, hands-on encounters with Shaanxi's celebrated culinary traditions, and quiet moments of reflection in places where emperors once walked. Your bilingual guide brings alive the stories behind every stone and summit.

  • Hike the misty trails of Qinling National Park
  • Visit ancient Taoist & Buddhist mountain temples
  • Explore the UNESCO-listed Terracotta Army
  • Savor authentic Shaanxi street food & banquets
  • Walk atop Xi'an's Ming Dynasty city wall
  • Stay in hand-picked boutique accommodations

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Four carefully crafted days balancing mountain adventure, cultural discovery, and moments of quiet wonder.

Arrival in Chang'an & Ancient City Immersion

"Where thirteen dynasties left their mark"

Your journey begins in Xi'an, the modern name for ancient Chang'an. After settling into your boutique hotel within the old city walls, we ascend the magnificent Ming Dynasty City Wall — one of the best-preserved fortifications in China. From the ramparts, the grid of the ancient capital unfolds beneath you.

In the evening, the Muslim Quarter beckons with its labyrinth of lantern-lit lanes. Your guide introduces you to the stories behind each stall as you sample roujiamo (meat-filled flatbread), yangrou paomo (lamb soup with torn bread), and freshly made persimmon cakes — flavors that have drawn traders along the Silk Road for centuries.

The Terracotta Army & Qin Dynasty Legacy

"An underground empire frozen in clay"

Depart early for the UNESCO World Heritage Site that drew the world's attention to Xi'an — the Terracotta Army. Your guide leads you through Pit 1, where thousands of life-sized warriors stand in battle formation, each face uniquely modeled. We visit the museum's conservation labs to witness archaeologists at work, piecing together fragments of history.

The afternoon brings you to the tomb mound of Emperor Qin Shi Huang himself, and the Huaqing Palace — a complex of hot springs where the Tang Dynasty emperor Xuanzong and his beloved concubine Yang Guifei once bathed. The love story, and the tragedy that followed, is woven into the very architecture of the place.

Into the Qinling Mountains — Peaks & Temples

"Where Taoist hermits once sought the way"

Today the city gives way to wilderness as we drive south into the Qinling Mountains, the great geographic divide between north and south China. Our trail winds through old-growth forests of Chinese pine and birch, past clear mountain streams and meadows dotted with wildflowers.

We pause at a mountainside Taoist temple complex that has welcomed pilgrims for over a thousand years. Your guide explains the symbolism of the architecture and the philosophy that drew scholars and seekers to these peaks. After a lunch of mountain-grown vegetables and handmade noodles at a family-run lodge, an optional afternoon hike leads to a panoramic ridge with views stretching across the range.

Village Life, Farewell & Departure

"The mountain gives; the mountain remembers"

Wake to birdsong and the scent of pine. After breakfast at the lodge, we descend through a valley of traditional farming villages where time moves to the rhythm of the seasons. Walk the narrow lanes between stone-walled courtyard houses, meet local families who maintain centuries-old crafts, and perhaps try your hand at making a simple noodle dough.

A final Shaanxi banquet in a restored courtyard restaurant celebrates the journey — biangbiang noodles, steamed fish with chili and Sichuan pepper, and sweet osmanthus cake. Then, with cameras full and stories richer, we return to Xi'an for your onward journey, carrying the Qinling Mountains with you.
